Virtue is the Basis of Life
Matthew Jennings
Owner & Carpenter
Living and working in the Sierra Foothills of California
I’m a carpenter by trade and by calling. Our family lives in the oak woodlands of the Sierra foothills—a quiet, resilient landscape that mirrors the values we hold dear. My wife Christine and I married in 2007 and have built a life rooted in faith, craftsmanship, and family. We homeschool our five children and spend our days balancing creative work with the simple joys of home.
Carpentry has always been more than a skill—it’s a way of serving. Over the years, I’ve built furniture for churches, homes, and families across California. Whether it’s a hand-planed table, a custom cabinet, or a small repair that brings something back to life, I approach each project with care and reverence. I believe in working with natural materials, honoring tradition, and crafting pieces that last.
In 2011, we felt called to turn this work into a full-time family business. Since then, I’ve had the privilege of working with clients who value simplicity, authenticity, and thoughtful design. Every piece I build is shaped by the values we hold close: humility, usefulness, and beauty that doesn’t shout.
In addition to custom furniture and woodwork, we also offer:
Personalized wooden caskets, crafted with care and reverence
Caskets designed for green burial, using natural, biodegradable materials
Custom woodwork for homes, churches, and community spaces
Collaborative planning to meet each family’s unique needs
Our work is grounded in the belief that good carpentry is a form of stewardship—of materials, of relationships, and of time. We’re grateful to live and work in a place that reminds us daily of what’s worth building and preserving.
With gratitude,
Matthew & Christine Jennings
“To live each day as though it were our last brings out the urgency and imminence of the events of each day and the necessity to use each of those events for our own spiritual benefit. Living in this way makes it easier to live each day for the glory of God and brings us step by step and moment by moment nearer to Christ.”
